Grade 11-12: SHSID NHS Induction Ceremony
January the second, 2020, was the first day of school in the new year and was also the date of the long-awaited National Honor Society induction ceremony in the annex auditorium in front of many teachers and parents who came to support on this momentous occasion. The ceremony was conducted by the Chapter President with four speakers representing scholarship, service, leadership, and character respectively, stepping onto the stage to light the candles and give inspiring speeches on behalf of the entire NHS on these core values. The ceremony was also honored by the presence of past members of the NHS in the teachers and parents, coming together to share the event. Mr. Brandon Lang, our teacher who was also a former counselor and past member of NHS, also gave a speech to share his experience.
After the four candles were all lit, all NHS members under the leadership of the President swore the charter pledge, being presented with their own individual patches and bylaw booklets. During the next year, these new members will collaborate to complete a group service activity along with their own individual volunteer projects. The ceremony ended with inspiring words from Principal Ma, who expressed hope that all students could abide by the bylaws of the NHS and hold themselves to the highest standards in all four of the core NHS qualities to become model students for all to see.
