Grade 4–5: Project Showcase
In this semester, teachers from Grade 4-5 assigned various projects to cultivate students' application ability of the learned knowledge and stimulate their innovation. At the staff meeting on January 6th, teachers from five different subjects shared their successful projects.
The projects from fourth grade were “The Past and Present of the Old Buildings in Shanghai” and “If there were WeChat in Ancient Times” from a native Chinese group, “Plan a Birthday Party” and “Mathville Brochure” from the Math group, “Fractured Fairytale” from the English group, “Environmental Career” from the Science group and “5 Themes of Geography” from Geography group.
The projects from the fifth grade were “I am a Little Observer” and “Small Lens on Art Festival” from the native Chinese group, “Indirect Measurement” and “Graphs” from the Math group, “Storyboard PBA” from the English group, “Water Ecosystem” and “Land Ecosystem” from the Science group and “Amazon Rainforest Project” from the Geography group.
Most of the projects were closely related to students' life practice. “Environmental Career” from the G4 Science group asked students to write resumes, participate in interviews, learn to explore and show their advantages like in a real job interview. “Small Lens on Art Festival” from G5 native Chinese group took the Art Festival as the object of observation and guided the students to observe and think.
The projects also exercised students' creativity and practical ability. To finish “Mathville Brochure” from G4 Math group, many students were not limited to the "brochure" form. They used boxes, house models and other creative forms to promote their "Mathville". In “Amazon Rainforest Project” from G5 Geography group, the students were able to make several vivid Amazon rainforest models by their hands and knowledge.
After the showcase, teachers from every subject were all inspired. Next semester, we will continue to integrate interesting projects into students' learning.
