Junior Section Math Department: "My Dream House or Car" Project

January 6, 2020

For their New Year’s project, sixth grade students were given an interesting task: create a unique design for their dream house or car. This project required students to fully use their imagination while applying their knowledge of scale factors in a real-world context. The students were asked to include details relevant to their favorite hobbies, personal aesthetics, and individual interests. They were also told to make the scale as reasonable and accurate as possible. Some drew the projects by hand, while others used computer software to create a more professional look.

This project allowed students to fuse their passion and imagination with the academic knowledge they acquired this semester. It also gave students the confidence to create and adapt their own designs so that they were as realistic as possible. This is a meaningful project that not only improved students’ math skills but also demonstrated how math content can be applied to real-world careers, such as architecture and construction. Students' creativity is impressive and we look forward to seeing what they can further accomplish next semester.
