Primary School Subjects Department: My World Wonder
On January 3rd, grade two students were finally able to show off their hard work in social studies. For several weeks, students have been studying features of geography, including maps, landmarks and landforms. Recently, students learned about the Wonders of the World. They learned about different categories, such as the Ancient Wonders, the Natural Wonders and the Engineering Wonders of the World.
Students were then assigned a project which asked them to create 3D models and promotional brochures for the World Wonder of their choice. They used creativity to complete both tasks, and both teachers and classmates were impressed by their efforts.
The students used a variety of materials, including Lego, clay, slime, styrofoam and more to create their models. In the end, students chose to depict a variety of Wonders, such as the Great Wall of China, The Great Pyramid of Giza, Christ the Redeemer, and even the ancient Hanging Gardens of Babylon.
Their models captivated the audience, but it was their brochures that really convinced other students to “visit” their World Wonder. Students were asked to give reasons for others' visiting the World Wonder they chose to portray, therefore tying in persuasive writing practice. They convinced us all that their amazing Wonder is worth visiting.
