Junior Section Math Department: AMC8 Awards

January 6, 2020

A few days ago, middle school students from Shanghai High School International Division received their AMC8 scores from the Mathematical Association of America (MAA). AMC8 is one of the most competitive math competitions created for 8th grade students and younger. The test contains 25 carefully designed math problems selected by the members of the MAA. SHSID students from a variety of math backgrounds attended the AMC8 this year.

The impressive results speak for themselves. Thirteen students from SHSID received the Distinguished Honor Roll award, which is for students scoring in the top 1% of all participants. Altogether, 52 students received the Honor Roll award, which is for students scoring in the top 5%. From the talented aforementioned students, Bryce Yang from class 8(1), Alyna Tang from class 8(7), and Chao Ren from class 8(7) scored the highest overall for SHSID. Mr. Liu, the principal of the middle school, personally awarded the certificates to these three students and expressed praise for their high achievements.

Since the math club has been successfully meeting each week under the supervision of Ms. Yan, there have been a growing number of students discovering their passion for and interest in mathematics. Students have also devoted more effort in their mathematical studies. We look forward to more achievements in mathematics in the new year ahead.
