Grade 7: YD Class "How to Deal with School Bullying"
Winter is approaching, and the weather has become colder. Inside the warmly heated classrooms, the seventh-grade students of SHSID are talking enthusiastically in their YD class. Today, the topic is bullying. Students have heard of bullying, and some have even experienced bullying in their own lives. Our teacher went over some definitions, and all my classmates seem to be interested in the lesson. Bullying is when a person harms or insults another person either physically or mentally. Students were all interested in this topic, and immediately they admitted that they were bullied, or that they have been bullies before. Some students asked whether bullying refers only to fighting and hitting others. In order to answer their questions, our teacher introduced three kinds of bullying: verbal, social, and physical. No matter in which way, when we hurt others’ feelings, it will cause a negative impact on both the bully and the victim. Our teacher even used a personal example of her student committing suicide when she got bullied at school. Immediately, the atmosphere in the classroom became intense, and the smile and laughter on students’ faces disappeared. We can tell from their faces that our classmates have understood the consequences of bullying and the negative impacts it can bring to our lives. It can result in an increase of depression, anxiety, and disruption in life patterns. Next, our teacher introduced what we can do when we face bullies. The best thing to do is just to tell an adult and never participate in bullying. The Golden Rule was also introduced, and it states, “treat others the way you want to be treated”. Our teacher also explained three things we can do to turn bullies into our friends and let them understand the consequences of our actions. When we meet bullies, we should treat them with kindness and forgiveness instead of fighting and arguing with them.
This class has brought a clear understanding of school bullying. We can’t make sure that we won’t meet any bullies in our future lives, but when we actually encounter these kinds of people, what we have to do is to avoid the disagreement and forgive them if possible. Only in this way, we can maintain a more peaceful world with kinder people and a better society.
