Grade 8: Karaoke Competition
On May 9th, 2019, cheers from the enthusiastic crowd met the contestants as they got ready for their turn to shine. At the start, a fast-paced video ignited the students’ hyped-up attitude. Cheering resounded from the audience as the hosts stepped onstage to introduce the first singers.
As the first song started up, the first notes started lilting from the singer’s voices and students started swaying to the quiet music. Students waved their hands in the air; they quietly cheered their friends onstage. As the song came to a close and the singers took a bow, the crowd cheered loudly; some even gave a standing ovation to those who sang really well. Both English and Chinese songs were sung by the students with voices filled with emotion, which were well received by both students and teachers. When an especially excellent song came up, the pumped-up students whistled and hollered to the singers onstage and even started clapping enthusiastically in sync with the rhythm. Some singers, who weren’t as skilled in the singing department as their schoolmates, tried their best at singing and received encouraging claps and whistles from the crowd, who even joined in the singing at times. Every song sung had its own style and language as each was sung by different people. Much to the excitement of the students, even teachers were invited to sing on the stage.
Unbeknownst to the rapt audience, time flew quickly and soon the results were announced. Cecilia, Zoe, Tesslyn, Adele, Samana and Joanne took third place, Abbey and Emma took second place, and Catie won first place much to everyone’s approval—her voice was spectacular!
The Karaoke Competition came to an end with thunderous applause from the student body. Every student enjoyed this event immensely.
