Grade 11: "Consumer Behavior" at Cornell’s Winter Camp

February 16, 2019

On January 17, 2019, Professor Sahara Byrne from Cornell University launched a seven-day winter camp on the theme of "consumer behavior" in ZX Building 125. This project aimed to help students learn the basics of advertising psychology and marketing in order to apply these skills to the copy platform. The ultimate goal of this project was to present an ad platform with an agency “team”. Seven days of activities were based on the product’s marketing process, gradually learning theory, application practice, summary of the text, and presentation. During this period, students experienced pre-school reading, data retrieval, information screening, lecturing, discussion and summary, and social practice. The professors were skilled in using clever and popular questions to guide students to think before, during, and after class; free periods and group discussions helped students explore knowledge by themselves. On the 4th day, under the leadership of the professor, the students took questionnaires and records to the crowded Wal-Mart supermarket to conduct market research. They “snuck into” the market by using multiple routes to collect the required information. On the last day of the event, students dressed in formal clothes to present wonderful and substantial product introductions in the Drama Center. Each received recognition and encouragement from the applause of the teachers and parents present.

Chelsie, a student who participated, said, “I learned a lot of practical knowledge in Cornell's winter camp. Professor Byrne took us to the streets to do a survey, which gave me new experiences and challenges that I had never had before and made me reconsider the importance of the subjects I have learned for future career development.”
