Grade 9: Assembly – Student Representative’s Speech
In the Grade 9 Assembly this week, five students from 9(2) gave speeches on their experience in STEM competitions and extracurricular activities.
The first person to speak was Ray. The conclusion he drew from attending CYBL and a dart competition was that being nervous during a competition will severely impair your ability to compete effectively.
The second speaker, Ken, spoke about his experience in the Shanghai Adolescent Science and Technology Innovation contest. This experience taught him that selecting a specific topic and using time management is important to succeed in these types of competitions.
Next, Eric talked about the International Math Modeling Competition. He He discovered that being adept in English writing was paramount in getting second prize in the competition.
Then we heard a succinct speech from Yusuke about the well-known AMC, American Math Competition. He emphasized how important AMC scores are for higher education. He also stressed that the best way to prepare is to complete all sorts of AMC questions.
The last speaker was Emma. She talked about her experience of managing time with her singing and track competitions. Even though she won many awards, she discussed how the overall experience is more important that the prizes.
All the lessons learned by these accomplished students might seem overused. However, they are applicable in all aspects of life.
