The Opening Ceremony of the 2023 SHSID Teachers and Students’ Artworks Exhibition Successfully Held
The opening ceremony of the 2023 Shanghai High School International Division Teachers and Students’ Artworks Exhibition as one of the activities of the 30th SHSID anniversary celebrations was successfully held at Liu Haisu Museum on the morning of May 13. Distinguished guests from the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, Shanghai Artists Association, Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts at Shanghai University, and Liu Haisu Museum were invited to celebrate this occasion. Principal of Shanghai High School, Mr. Feng Zhigang, principals and directors from each section, teachers, parents, and students participated in the ceremony. The ceremony was hosted by Ms. Zhang Zehong, the Secretary General of Shanghai High School.
At the opening ceremony, Mr. Huang Azhong, a member of the Shanghai Museum of Culture and History, former director of the Oil Painting Committee of the Shanghai Artists Association, and professor and doctoral supervisor of the School of Fine Arts at Shanghai University, delivered a speech. Mr. Huang Azhong stated that he has witnessed the development of art courses in SHSID, gradually forming a unique and charming art teaching style of "multi-interest motivation, multi-field arts development, and multi-feature arts presentation". He also highly praised that SHSID has established a high-level art teaching team and cultivated a group of "strong potential" talented art students.
Principal Feng warmly welcomes and sincerely thanks the guests, colleagues, and teachers who have come to attend the opening ceremony of this art exhibition! He said that this activity should be taken as an opportunity to continuously improve the SHSID high-level education and strengthen the dissemination and learning of excellent traditional Chinese culture. It has integrated traditional Chinese painting, calligraphy, Chinese arts, and other contents into the curriculum to highlight the Chinese characteristics in teaching at SHSID. He showed gratitude to the art education experts for their continuous support!
Mr. Zheng Xinyao, Deputy Director of the Cartoon Art Committee of the China Artists Association, Director of the China Artists Association, and Chairman of the Shanghai Artists Association, came to the exhibition hall to make comments and face-to-face guidance with the student creators. Mr. Zheng proposed three key competencies for students' creation --- observation, imagination, and expression. He emphasized the important thing is to let the painting "express life", rather than "reproduce life".
The art curriculum of the Shanghai High School International Division is characterized with respect to student growth via an emphasis on personalized learning guidance and studio learning experience. Most of the 400 student works in this exhibition come from classroom assignments, fully demonstrating the process of the art teaching system from grades 1 to 12, and fully displaying the teaching achievements and educational spirit combining the Western and Chinese essence that the SHSID has achieved since its establishment 30 years ago. At the same time, this exhibition also includes over 20 works by the art teachers at Shanghai High School, showcasing their exploration and innovation in the field of art.
We look forward to your visit from May 13 to 21. Let us together enter the art palace and wander in the ocean of beauty.
