A Special Gift for Mother’s Day---A Lecture on Scientific Parenting

On the morning of May 13th, a special lecture for Mother’s Day was held at SHSID. Professor Hong Lan, a well-known educationist and brain scientist, was invited to give a lecture on scientific parenting for SHSID parents. About 400 parents attended the lecture.

With humorous language and vivid illustrations, Professor Hong presented ideas on cognitive development and its relationship with student academics and activities. The audience burst into applause again and again.

After the speech, a panel discussion was held between Ms. Li Jing, the chairman of SHSID PTSA, Ms. Jane Sun, the school-level member of SHSID PTSA and the CEO of Ctrip, and Professor Hong. The panel discussion was another great climax of this activity. Afterwards, Professor Hong answered some puzzling questions from the parents, and offered some suggestions.

All the parents received a carnation when they left the auditorium. They felt as though the lecture made the Mother’s Day more meaningful, as they walked away with deeper understanding of parenting. Ms. Jane Sun, also an alumna of Shanghai High School, took a photo with Professor Hong Lan in front of the Longmen Building, sending her best wishes to her Alma Mater.
