Empower our students academically and professionally: Grade 9 Parents Meeting
Empower our students academically and professionally: Grade 9 Parents Meeting
To provide more opportunities for all the students of Grade 9 to reach their full potential both academically and professionally, to emphasize the importance of character, competition, team, responsibility, and to inspire and instill in students a sense of pride, commitment, and values that will contribute to their success as a productive member of the community, Grade 9 of SHSID organized the first parents’ meeting of the school new semester on Thursday night, 21st, September.
Mr Ma Feng, Principal of SHSID High School, gave an opening lecture fat the beginning of parents meeting. Based on the SHSID “Tree & Person” curriculum and co-curriculum model, students are encouraged to develop their academic skills fully in learner-centric classes and use online data resources to enrich their knowledge. The ways to evaluate students include student engagement analysis, letter grades and a scholarship system based on a holistic review. The school designed a “student semester planner” for all high school students to emphasize the importance of time management and stimulate student initiative. Moreover, a preliminary service of mental counseling, college counseling and Career counseling including a career day and job shadowing are provided to SHSID students. Principle Ma also answered several topics parents are frequently concerned with, including available information channels, college application concerns and so on. At the end, while expressing thanks to all parents who came to the parents meeting, the will to “make SHSID a better place for all students and teachers” impacted everyone.
Ms. Liu Shan, coordinator of teaching, introduced SHSID high school curriculum map, as well as wide platforms, professional faculty, amazing results on standard testing scores and IB&AP exam results, and expectations to all students: “Be your own master, and be responsible for yourself.”
Ms. Liu Min, director of Grade 9-10, introduced the upcoming parents’ meeting and parents’ school provided in Grade 9-10, courses for Grade 9-10, the PBL program, counseling classes, important points regarding course selection and level adjustment, PSAT and PACT tests, the scholarship system, subject days, and big upcoming events. At the end of lecture, Director Liu encouraged students to find their best study method to keep a successful GPA, to find their best fit “course level”, to explore their chosen major and future career, and to make a concrete and dynamic high school plan to improve themselves in all areas. At last, Ms. Cui Mengdi clarified information regarding the peer adviser program, family connection system, summer programs, and other resources to all parents.
After the first section, all parents went to different classrooms in Zhongxing building to communicate with subject teachers from English, Math, History, Physics, Chemistry, Geography, IT, Economics, Art, Music and also homeroom teachers. By exchanging their ideas and students’ experience in school during the first month, the parents and teachers will now be able to work together toward success for the students after this successful parents’ meeting.
