SHSID Teacher Mark Seeley Wins 2017 "Magnolia Award"
SHSID Teacher Mark Seeley Wins 2017 "Magnolia Award"
Mark Seeley, High School Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Deputy Head of Englishat Shanghai High School International Division, received the 2017 Magnolia Award from the Shanghai Municipal Government.
The Magnolia Award has been an honor given to expatriates in Shanghai since 1989 to recognize their service to the local community and their development of relationships between China and the rest of the world. This year, there were 50 recipients ranging from CEOs and Presidents of companies. Among these leading figures in Shanghai business, culture, and education, Mr. Mark Seeley of SHSID is the only winner as a high school teacher, which represents a wonderful growth in the Magnolia Award in its recognition of the importance of secondary education.
Mr. Seeley is one of the most beloved foreign teachers of the SHSID students. His online MOOC on Romeo and Juliet has been viewed thousands of times by local students around Shanghai. Since his promotion toAssistant Principal of Curriculum, Mark has been improving school curriculum, and created an interactive online curriculum as well. During his spare time, with the support from school, he has been pursuing a PhDin English Language and Literature at SISUon a full scholarship.
The winning of the Magnolia Award by a high school teacher not only speaks well of the understanding of the Shanghai Municipal People's Government Foreign Affairs Office's awareness that the beauty of flowers starts with the roots, it also increases the attraction, creativity, and competitiveness of SHSID and Shanghai. SHSID will continue to optimize the environment for our foreign teachers’ development, and to assuregreat learning experiences for the students.
We look forward to an even brighter and more fragrant future ahead!
