Steeped in sportsmanship and the spirit of competition----------- SHSID High School sports week
Steeped in sportsmanship and the spirit of competition----------- SHSID High School sports week
Boasting over five days of sunshine and great venues, SHSID high school students enjoyed a fantastic sports week at the indoor and outdoor sporting events. Students were encouraged to attend independently or as a team during the dodgeball tournament, Sports Meeting, Carnival, and food fair to enrich their experiences during the sports week. It was very exciting that all the teachers were also involved in these events and worked together with students. Hosting almost one thousand high school students and sporting events, SHSID High School’s 2016 sports week was steeped in sportsmanship and the spirit of competition.
Each day of the sports week had a different theme. It was Stallions on Saturday, Black Friday on Sunday, Twin Day on Monday, Sports Day on Tuesday, and Sunglasses Day on Wednesday, and the last day, Thursday was the day of the sports meeting. From Monday to Wednesday, students from Grade 9 to 12 entered a dodgeball tournament, using traditional survival rules plus a creative new element: a prince and princess are chosen and must survive secretly. If a team loses their prince and princess, they lose the game. On the sports meeting day, though the weather was a little bit windy and cloudy in the afternoon, the students were all very excited and the whole school was alive with energy. All kinds of races were help: a long jump, high jump, relay, tug of war, a volleyball game held by both teachers and students, a Carnival and a food fair brought everyone a remarkable day to experience and have fun.
How do high school sports benefit students? The range of available sports is expanding. Now SHSID has not just athletics and swimming, but also group competitions like basketball, volleyball, and soccer. Every sport is open to both boys and girls. Sports competitions like Community Representation, Fitness, Improved Academics, and 3“P’s”(Persistence, Patience and Practice), Teamwork and Cooperation, are extracurricular activities students can choose and enjoy. SHSID’s High School students are going to work well all round as a positive, energetic and sunny Stallions!
