Pudong Grade 1: Book Scout

We are proud to announce at Pu Dong we had a new program to encourage reading a diverse subject range this semester. This new program is called “Book Scouts”.

Like the real boy and girl scouts, students received a sash that could be used to accumulate “badges”. Students had the opportunity to earn badges that cover a wide range of literature genres. Genres included mystery, science fiction, historical, and many more! A “Chinese Learner” badge was also be included to encourage Chinese reading skills as well! The badges for each genre had a more creative name. For example, children that read fantasy books could receive a “magician” badge with a picture of a wizard hat and wand on the badge.

We asked that every student wear their sash and bring their reading log on Mondays which we have deemed as “Book Scout Day”. On this day, teachers distributed badges and stars earned from the previous week.
