Grade 9: Do what you like, like what you do---Academy Program

October 11, 2015

The Academy program is a supplement to a student's high school education, which is not a mandatory course but a part of the student’s class schedule supervised by teachers with students’ own initiative. Students take advantage of their high school offerings and expand and broaden their academic experiences through the Academy Program. The Academy Program offers high school students the opportunity to explore while still in high school, which is vested in helping students apply academic knowledge in real world scenarios. Academic learning and the practical application of knowledge are intertwined in a manner that allows one to compliment the other, making achievement in both arenas more obtainable. Students are expected to undertake sustained projects or acquire accessory training in their chosen fields with resourcefulness, initiative, curiosity, and originality.

A lecture given by different supervisors of the Academy Program which introduced the program in brief, was presented to all the students of Grade 9 on Sep. 6th. Students were eligible to register for the Academy Program from which they may demonstrate initiative, academic skills, group work and leadership through the successful completion of prerequisite tasks or other requirements as supervised by instructors.

The Academy Program that started on Sep. 25th, is a brand new experience to freshmen of high school. Students choose the program they like based on their genuine interests to further expand their knowledge and develop their skills and potential. By experiencing the long term benefits of this program, students, grade 9-11, can grow as learners, choose a proper major and be better prepared for college.
