SHSID's Five and Six Grades had a Trip of Charity to Qinghai

On Nov. 20th, 2014, an envoy form SHSID to Lanzhou. Principal Liu Lian of junior high school, Teacher Zhou Shengyuan of Grade six, and student Wu Wenkai and his father, student Situ Chengyi and his father began their journey of charity in Qinghai as soon as we got off the plane, despite the cold outside. One objective of this trip was investigating the operation model of Fu Tian Environmental Protection ---a commonweal organization which was financially assisted by five and six grades of SHSID. Another objective is acquiring detailed knowledge about the actual life and education there.

On the first day, we visited a deaf child named Hu Wei's home.

On the way, we got a flat tire. But we were determined to get there. We reconciled ourselves to the current situation and took a group photo to mark the occasion.

It was toward evening when we arrived at Hu Wei's house. He has congenital deafness. His father died early. His mother is a migrant worker with a tiny income. He's now lodging at his aunt's house. He has had surgery and was wearing a hearing aid. He now can hear the outside world. Wu Wenkai and Situ Chengyi read for him enthusiastically.

On the second day, we went to Xining and passed three primary schools. We delivered goods and materials, then started the activities.

Guangming Primary School

Hu Langcheng Primary School

Sheren Wanxiao Primary School

The plain and simple school buildings

Carbon burning heating in the classroom

These all gave us a deep impression.

We prepared hats, gloves, scarfs, bags and so on for their needs.

When the children got these presents, they smiled.

We felt emotional.

Wu Wenkai and Situ Chengyi led the students and played games with them.

When we entered the classroom, the students were working on written compositions. Many students were writing about the things happened that day.

Through discussing with the principle of Sheren Wanxiao, we got the information that the dropout rate in their school is high. The pre-elementary classes, which originally contained over 70 students, only have 20 students when they entered grade six. Among these 20 students, only three students will enter secondary school.

We went to Ge Ermu by train that night. The temperature was 15 degrees below zero. We were delivering 300 pairs of shoes to a local community...

When we were delivering the shoes, students at local schools offered holy hada and sent their best wishes to us.

Wu Wenkai, Situ Chengyi were making art with the children.

After delivering the shoes, we went to students' homes for family visits. We learned more about their life and study.

We returned to Xining by train that night and we couldn't fall asleep, which was not only because of the bumpy journey but also because the three days' experience was lingering in our minds and thoughts were running through our heads.

After the trip, we had some thoughts.

Wu Wenkai's father said: “Passing the primary schools at Tu minority, Hui minority and Zang minority when we arrived in Qinghai, we saw many isolated and poor villages and towns. We got to know these children and their situation. Most little girls wouldn't continue their studies after primary school. We suddenly felt that the world is unfair as soon as we saw the things they were eating and using and the clothes they wear, the classes they were having, we were so surprised that there are such big differences among these children here from those in other cities.”

The Father of Situ Chengyi said: “As parents, we always want to do our best to give our kids the best things. However the children there have no parents and more parents there cannot provide anything. When we saw the children being healthy and studying well after receiving medical assistance, the bright school buildings and the smile on children's faces right after they put on their hats and gloves, a sweet feelings ran through our hearts. Doing charity is not merely shouting slogans. Aid are not temporary. Insisting on doing our best in everything, learning to love and care about every people around us, these are the biggest wealth we can offer to our children.

Principal Liu Lian concluded that, “For the junior high school students, charity not only means helping other people, but also providing our children with a platform for personal growth. The children understand the importance of organization skills、communication skills and cooperation skills. SHSID will continue 'visible charity behavior' and expand our cooperation with outside resources to provide more opportunities. ”
