Pu Xi Grade 2: Wonderful Cultural Week

Week 10 was a very exciting week for the second grade students as they traveled around the world during class time. Cultural week was an opportunity for students to learn about the world as well as share their knowledge of other countries and cultures. The Social Studies teachers each made a presentation about a country that they’ve visited before, and educated each second grade class about that country. In addition, a parent from each class came to our school during the personal growth period and gave a presentation to the students about a country that they know very well.

Each student designed their own passport and collected stamps as they traveled. They also carried an information sheet to each country that they visited, finding information about the country’s language, flag, population, holidays, famous places, famous people, food, and other interesting facts. In Japan, the students were given special origami. In France, the students were able to try a French dessert and were given an Eiffel Tower keychain. In Brazil, the students had a lot of fun learning about the upcoming Olympics and were given books to read about the country. In India, the students saw beautiful pictures of the country.

At the end of Cultural Week, the students created a poster, or information pamphlet about their favorite country. If you visit the primary school, you can see these posters and pamphlets hanging on the walls outside of the classrooms. The students really enjoyed all of the Cultural week activities and were very excited to learn all about the world!
