PudongG5Held the First Geography Fair

Shanghai High School International Division PudongZhangjiang campus held the first Geography Fair on the afternoon of May 20th.

During the Geo Fair, each class had previously selected a country for their class theme. For example, Class 5 (1) selected Russia for its country and Class 5 (2) selected Brazil for its country.

In order to make the students who visited the classrooms feel that they were actually in that country, teachers and students did very careful preparations beforehand.

Each homeroom decorated their classroom with a theme reflecting the culture of their designated country, carefully choosing certain elements of each country’s culture to highlight and show off.

In 5 (1), we adorned the classroom with the national colors of Russia. We played a slideshow on the board that gave great insight into Russian culture and even had fun Russian pop music playing. The class was sporadically decorated with Russian flags, maps and symbols.

In 5 (2), they choose to decorate their classroom with Brazilian flags and colors. They played traditional Brazilian music accompanied by a video about Brazilian culture. They also had posters giving insight into specific parts of Brazil and its inhabitants.

In 5(1) classroom, students could play a fun game with traditional Matryoshka dolls, copy Russian characters and win Russian traditional candies. In the 5(2) classroom, the game was called Cinco Marias and students could learn to speak Portuguese and drink tasty Brazilian guava juice.

The countries shown off by other classes were:

1(1) – Japan, 1(2) – Italy, 2(1) – South Korea, 2(2) – Argentina, 3(1) – Egypt, 3(2) – Kenya, 3(3) – Morocco, 4(1) – Mexico, 4(2) – Thailand

The long-awaited Geo Fair started after lunch time!

Every student got a passport, which was designed by our teachers. Each passport had eleven beautiful stamps- one for each country was represented. There were also two food stamps on the passport.

Carrying their passport, students began to visit every classroom, taste every country’s fine food and take part in fantastic games.

Every classroom was crowded with many students. Both higher and lower-grade students shared in the fun and games brought to them by the Geo Fair.

This year’s Geo Fair ended with tons of enthusiasm and laughter. Everyone is definitely looking forward to next year’s Geo Fair.
