An In-depth Look into Dr. Seuss Whimsical Week

To memorize Dr. Seuss, the great children's book writer and illustrator, the primary section held a series of interesting themed activities last week from Mar 10thto 14th. During this whimsical week, our students got involved in this exciting time by participating in many activities and dressing up according to different themes related to Dr. Seuss and his books! Together, we read many well-known picture books and incorporated those stories into our English, Science and Social Studies classes.

Mixed-up Monday

On our “Mixed-up” Monday, the children wore mixed-up clothes to school, such as underwear on the outside and pajamas with ties. They read “Wocket in My Pocket” and learned about rhyming words.

Top Hat Tuesday

For “Top Hat” Tuesday, some kids wore top hats that they made themselves in PG class. Some wore other interesting story hats and even put on circle glasses to match their cute hats to make themselves into a cartoon character. Our foreign teachers even prepared food mentioned in Dr. Seuss books such as green eggs and ham. Everyone enjoyed eating while listening to the story.

Wacky Wednesday

On our “Wacky” Wednesday, the children wore their craziest socks to school. They read “Oh My Many Colorful Days” and “Fox in Socks” in their English class. Students also continued working on rhyming words and poems, as well as grammar, incorporating capital letters and punctuation.

Twins Thursday

Thursday was the most expected day of the week because kids had to wear the same clothes and hair style as their friends. The parents started to prepare for this day a week ago. They contacted each other and went shopping together on the weekends to find the same clothes for their kids. It made them excited to become twins with intimate friends and classmates. In class, we read the book "Oh! The Places You’ll Go!" and talked about the jobs they wanted to hunt for in the future. We also made puppets of the Dr. Seuss characters “Thing 1” and “Thing 2.”

Fan Friday

To commemorate the birth of Dr. Seuss, we celebrated his birthday on Friday. Children were welcomed to dress up like their favorite Dr. Seuss character, so some of them wore colorful wigs and funny one-piece garments to school. In English class, we read Dr. Seuss’s famous book "Happy Birthday to You.” The support from Sodexo, our food and catering service provider, made this day even more wonderful. They prepared food such as spinach, green eggs and ham according to the book for kids' lunch, and specially-made delicate cupcakes for dessert to celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday. The students enjoyed the food so much!

All the students savored this magical time as they explored Dr. Seuss through his whimsical world of Seussville!
