G11: Volunteer Activity

As this school semester is coming to an end, we have concluded our regular, weekly club activities. Over the entire semester, the volunteer club held about twenty activities involving volunteering in subways, libraries, and hospitals, with each club member participating in the activities once or twice. These weekly activities gave our club members more interaction with society and helped them develop a sense of responsibility toward their job.

This year, after our devoted work in the library, we were honored to earn the reward of “Best Team” from the JingAn Library. We helped the library carry out many tasks, including the organization of books, participation in book events, and reception. We did our job the best we could, and the library rewarded us greatly.

Volunteering in the subway was also very successful. Nowadays, the subway serves as a daily mode of transportation for many people. The job as a subway volunteer enables our club members to meet all kinds of people, which enlarges their views of society and extends their knowledge about many things. Though the job may be tiring, many club members felt that this job was more exciting than library work because it was more unpredictable and interesting. Also, this type of volunteer work helps people more directly as evidenced by all the thank-yous our volunteers received.

This year, a new type of volunteer was introduced into the club: hospital volunteer. Scientific research indicates that playing and accompanying sick children can help them get better faster and help them stay in a good mood. So, every week we would go to the hospital and play with children with heart disease. We learned about the importance of health.

The club has done a great job this year, and we are looking forward to next year’s club activities!
