Mini Society

Mini Society

Recently in Social Study class, our second graders have learned about the production, movement and advertising of goods and services. In week 16, second grade opened a mini society where students were able to visit other shops and purchased small items with special SHSID money.

The mini society was fantastic. The activities were fun and interactive. To coincide with the lessons, our second graders worked on creating their own small business and

creating their own products. Students worked in groups of 3 or 4 to create their own products. Almost all the students did most of the work on their own. Everyone worked very hard to prepare for this mini society. They were given many ideas for products to create, such as paper boxes, origami, book marks, baked food, and jewelry. They were also encouraged to be creative and use recycled materials.

The three grade 2 classrooms were stirring, crowded with a lot of visitors and store holders. Students walked curiously around the different booths and bought the goods they liked. At the end of mini society, each group calculated how much they owned and gave this special SHSID to their teachers proudly. Mini society is not only a good opportunity to sell or buy something, but also a chance for our kids to combine theory with practice. Everyone was happy and smiling.
