As planned we watched the Beijing Opera in school auditorium today, the performance was all given by the professional actors and actresses from Shanghai Beijing Opera Theatre. While the kids were watching the opera, the whole auditorium was filled with laughter and applause. Between each two programs, the host introduced some funny knowledge about Beijing Opera to the kids. Through this activity, our 4thgraders not only got lots of knowledge but also feel the charm of the Beijing Opera.

In Wednesday lunch-time, the 4thgraders together joined the 2ndactivity in Chinese Culture Week: taste traditional Chinese food and watch the popular documentaryA Bite of China.

This time the food we prepared for kids is Qing Tuan, which is a sweet green rice ball with bean paste filling. Most of the 4thgraders are familiar with that dessert, and they ate it and praise it one after another. But some other kids that never saw the Qing Tuan and got scared by the jade green appearance, let alone ate it.

Last Thursday, the 4thgraders join the 3rdday activities of Chinese Culture Week. In morning’s Chinese class, the non-native students gathered in auditorium, and had a wonderful tongue twister competition. Every non-native Chinese class had prepared a performance, and after that, many students volunteered to go on the stage, joining the improvised tongue twister contest. Most of them got a delicate gift from teachers because of their excellent performance. Meanwhile, the native-Chinese class students learned lots of knowledge about Chinese traditional paper cutting art, and cut a Chinese character 囍 by following teacher’s direction.

Last Friday is the last day for Chinese Culture Week, the kids need to take traditional Chinese costume to school. The 4thgraders also took different kinds of traditional Chinese costume, which make our class look like back to the history. After lunch, our kids gather in the classroom and draw the Beijing opera face together. Although everyone’s work is so different with each other, their color schemes are bright and creative.
