In an effort to make the kids appreciate Chinese culture, the school organized a Chinese Culture Week this semester. Now let's have a look at what kind of interesting activities the 2nd graders did during that week.

Friend from Taiwan

We invited Ms. Wei’s Taiwan friend, Ms. Xie yizhen come to school to give us a speech about her hometown. Ms. Xie prepared not only beautiful pictures, but also a lot of gifts from Taiwan. After her presentation, all Taiwan kids and she invited us to Taiwan warmly. All those who haven’t been there all said they would ask their moms take them to Taiwan very soon.

Great Wall People

No one piece of architecture could represent China more than the Great Wall. 2nd graders built our own Great Wall this time in Chinese culture week and they pasted the pictures of heir favorite Chinese people on their Great Wall. Some introduced Li Bai, some introduced Kong Zi, some introduce Hu Jingtao, some introduced Qin Shihuang. All 2nd graders took great delight in talking about that all the time.

Chinese Fan and Beijing Opera Mask

Chinese fan and Beijing opera make-up are two most representative symbols of Chinese culture. In the Chinese culture week, we prepared one period for kids to paint their own fan and Beijing opera mask. Before we started, we introduced traditional Chinese fan in both art and literature way for our kids. After that, we explained that the different colors in Beijing opera’s make-up stand for different characteristics and features. All kids were very excited about that. After our explanation, every kid rolled their sleeves and said they wanted to have a try. Now, let us enjoy their work.

Chinese Traditional Game

Chinese culture is profound; one of the indispensable branches is game. For lower grades, games show its importance than ever. On a sunny afternoon, 2nd graders played a lot of traditional Chinese games and had a wonderful outside time. For example, Iron-hoop Rolling, those running hoops made a lot of trouble to our 2nd graders. Kids run after those hoops and laughed all the way cross the playground. Another example was shuttlecock kicking. Every 2nd grader asked us: “How to keep the light shuttlecock bouncing up and down without falling off from foot?” Diabolo juggling was a very popular game as well.

One wheel-shaped hollow bamboo, how can we make the wheel rolling and make music from the rolling? One period passed in a blink of an eye, all 2nd graders were so sad to hear the bell ring.In an effort to make the kids appreciate Chinese culture, the school organized a Chinese Culture Week this semester.
