The SHSID Chinese Debate Club is formed by students from both SHSID and SHS, on the basis of mutual love for debate culture. The club aims to blend the unique characteristics of the divisions, including eastern and western culture, and develop the critical thinking skill of its members during training and public presentations. Members are encouraged to participate in practices of debate during club activity time in order to learn from each other, and join competitions to test and improve their skills. We host offline activities on Wednesday noon, Wednesday afternoon, and Friday noon, with additional concentrated trainings before each competition. The club has been recently formed, and in only one and a half year, our short way along the journey has already made us the champion of 2021 Chinese Debate World Cup Shanghai division, one of the top eight teams in the national range, while winning second place in 2021 and 2022 Zongheng Cup, third place in Lianhehui Cup and 2021 Asia Cup. Aside from international competitions, we do not limit ourselves to focus solely on personal growth, but instead pour our enthusiasm in contributing to the school community. For instance, the members have actively parAcipated in the bilingual debate competition, and during the cooperation with English debaters and SHS debaters, we strive to demonstrate the unique charm of Chinese debate. Meanwhile, we have began to host in school debate competitions at the beginning of 2021 semester, which introduced students from ninth grade to Chinese debate and provoked people to think about the real life problems that the topics address. We will continue to post the result of competitions on online platforms, such as our wechat official account, expecting to spread the influence of the club and the culture it represents. In the future, we will host more competitions to encourage more students to participate in Chinese debate, and thrive to showcase our unique culture and skill to a wider audience.
