Hand in Hand with Love—“Music Afternoon Tea” Project Starts

September 22, 2026

On the afternoon of September 18th, 2026, the launch ceremony of the “Music Afternoon Tea” public welfare project was held at Shanghai Xuhui District Central Hospital. The project is jointly organized by Shanghai Xuhui District Central Hospital, Shanghai High School International Division, and the MFP Music for People Club. Through music, student volunteers from SHSID brought melodies and songs into the hospital, sharing warmth and good wishes with patients, medical staff, and everyone in attendance.

The ceremony began with a welcome address by Ms. Wang Lan, Secretary of the Party Committee of Shanghai Xuhui District Central Hospital, followed by remarks from Ms. Zhang Zehong, Secretary of the Party Committee of Shanghai High School. Their speeches expressed their support for the project and their hopes for its future.

The ceremony then continued with the “Melodies of Warmth” performance segment. Emma first opened the program with a clarinet solo, “Spirited Away.” The warm and soothing melody was filled with a sense of hope, bringing to mind the themes of growth and encounters found in Hayao Miyazaki’s beloved animated film. Next, Alyssa performed the cello solo “Adoration.” The cello’s rich and warm tone filled the space, creating a sense of calm and comfort.

Ellie then performed the flute solo “Gavotte.” This classic French dance piece, with its bright and clear flute melodies, brought a light and cheerful atmosphere to the audience. Following this, Crystal, Tom, Iris, and Joanna performed the French horn ensemble “The Lights of China.” The familiar melody paints a peaceful picture of lights glowing across homes and cities, carrying with it a simple wish for the safety and well-being of loved ones. The string ensemble, consisting of Vanellope, Melissa, Cindy, Zoey, Audrey, and Zoe, then performed “Canon in D Major.” The interwoven string parts responded to one another, creating a gentle and flowing melody that brought a sense of calm and tranquility to the audience while showcasing the enduring beauty of this Baroque classic. The classical repertoire continued with Hank, who performed the second movement of Mozart’s “Clarinet Concerto in A Major.” Its graceful and soothing melody filled the hospital space, creating a peaceful and warm atmosphere. As the concert drew to a close, Eric performed two songs, “Tian Tian” and “Zhui Xun.” His light and lyrical singing expressed a sense of hope for the future and brought an uplifting energy to the end of the performance.

With the final melodies and heartfelt songs, the launch ceremony of the “Music Afternoon Tea” public welfare project came to a close. The event not only brought patients and medical staff a memorable afternoon of music, but also marked the beginning of a new collaboration between SHSID student volunteers and Shanghai Xuhui District Central Hospital.

In the future, “Music Afternoon Tea” will be held periodically on Friday afternoons. Through music, the project hopes to bring warmth to the hospital environment and offer comfort and companionship to those who need it. May music always be present, and may warmth always remain.
