SHSID High School has consistently adhered to the core educational philosophy of "providing the foundations for life-long development," and is committed to cultivating "internationally-minded talents with international vision and affection for Chinese culture." Guided by this philosophy, the school provides fertile ground for nurturing outstanding innovative talents through a systematic curriculum, cutting-edge research platforms, and personalized mentorship. Our academic competition training system covers mathematics, physics and engineering, chemistry, biology and environmental science, computer science and informatics, economics and humanities, social sciences, as well as a wide range of scientific contests. We place strong emphasis on students’ holistic growth throughout the competition journey—from independent research to teamwork, from project design to public defense, from complex modeling to interdisciplinary practice—thereby comprehensively strengthening their communication skills, academic competence, and resilient character.

In recent years, SHSID students have achieved remarkable success in the world’s most prestigious academic competitions—a vivid embodiment of our “whole-person education” approach. In the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), multiple students have won first prizes, grand prizes, and various special awards in the global finals, with research projects covering cutting-edge fields such as biomedicine, materials science, and engineering, demonstrating exceptional originality and scientific rigor. In the S.-T. Yau High School Science Award, students have consistently won gold, silver, bronze, and honorable mention awards across multiple disciplines including mathematics, computer science, chemistry, and biology, showcasing solid academic foundations and deep theoretical expertise. In the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI), students have represented different countries in national teams, winning international bronze and silver medals. This year, one student was selected for the US National Chemistry Olympiad (USNCO) national training camp; another advanced to the national camp of his home country. Additionally, guided by our mathematic education philosophy of "deepening understanding through exploration and inspiring innovation through application," our students have repeatedly achieved outstanding results in top modeling competitions both domestically and internationally. Over the past five years, a total of 35 students have won the top prize in the HiMCM (High School Mathematical Contest in Modeling) and the IMMC (International Mathematical Modeling Challenge). Due to their exceptional performance in the global finals, our team was invited to present at the 14th International Congress on Mathematical Education, demonstrating excellent research capabilities and international competitiveness.

These accomplishments reflect the SHSID's continuous dedication to its educational approach of "respecting international standards, yet at the same time, stick to Chinese characteristics," as well as our deep concern and strong support for students' individualized development. We seamlessly integrate academic competitions into daily teaching. Based on students’ interests and strengths, we offer various interdisciplinary courses that reinforce foundational knowledge while expanding cognitive horizons. Through diverse academic activities such as internal selections, mock defenses, and expert lectures, we foster a vibrant culture of inquiry and ignites students' passion for exploring the unknown. Moreover, SHSID leverages academic mentor teams, scientific incubation centers, student clubs, and multiple collaborative platforms to provide authentic, hands-on opportunities for innovation, effectively transforming knowledge into real-world capability. During project development, we emphasize teamwork, knowledge transfer and interdisciplinary application, guiding students to gradually build the problem-solving mindset and agency needed for future global challenges. In addition, academic competitions serve as a catalyst to promote mutual growth between teachers and students. We have established a dual-mentor system combining house mentors and academic mentors, and have cultivated a team of experienced competition coaches.
