Birding Community

The SHS Birding Community focuses on documenting avian diversity on the campus and in the Shanghai region. The club has currently recorded 102 bird species on the campus, including some very rare species in Shanghai, such as the Kamchatka Leaf Warbler, Speckled Piculet, and Chestnut Bunting, among others. The club also updates the school’s bird records on eBird (a database maintained by Cornell Lab of Ornithology) to contribute to studies on bird occurrence and migration patterns. The club's findings and photographs are shared on its WeChat official account and the SHS Birding Guide to introduce others to the school’s incredible biodiversity. Starting from last year, SHS Birding Community has partnered with the Shenzhen Mangrove Foundation to create the Xiaohonghua Birding Corner on the 3rd floor of ZXB, aiming to raise awareness about bird conservation. Additionally, the club hosts monthly birding events, from lectures to guided birdwatching, inviting more students to enjoy the amazing biodiversity on campus and help protect the environment.
