Fengxian Campus G1: Ding! Next Stop: Bright Start Stop
On October 9, G1 students and teachers at SHSID Fengxian Campus came together to celebrate the "Bright Journey" arrival ceremony at Bright Start Stop. It was a chance to look back on the children’s growth since the start of the school year, but also an opportunity to celebrate their first steps as a new school community. For the children, the assembly was more than a time to gather. It was a chance to reflect on their own progress and notice the growth of their classmates. Small changes from everyday school life were brought into focus, becoming meaningful milestones in their first journey through primary school.
The assembly began with a special video that took the children back through their first month at school. With Brighty, the school mascot, as their guide, the video captured many of their first experiences. From walking into the classroom for the first time and meeting new classmates to learning classroom routines and getting used to school life; from organizing their own belongings to taking on new responsibilities, these everyday moments came together to tell the story of their first month of growth.
Look! This Is Their Effort
Growth deserves to be noticed and celebrated. During the class recognition segment, teachers from the four classes took turns on stage reflecting on the children’s progress. They highlighted their efforts in classroom routines, learning habits, and everyday school life as they adapted to Grade 1. Each class then announced its Monthly Stars and Sports Stars. Certificates and prizes were presented to the students in recognition of their efforts.
A small certificate can represent a great deal of hard work. It reminds children that listening carefully, following rules, and taking part in activities all matter. The moment on stage belonged to the award winners, while the applause belonged to every child who is working hard and growing every day. For our Grade 1 students, what matters most is not a single result, but learning to recognize their own progress and celebrate the efforts of others.
Listen! This Is Their Growth
Growth can be seen, but it can also be expressed. During the student sharing segment, representatives from the four classes took the stage to talk about their recent progress and the habits they are developing. Abigail from Class 1-1 shared “A Little Progress I Made This Month.” Noa from Class 1-2 spoke about “Why I Love My Grade 1 Life.” Lucas from Class 1-3 shared “My Good Habits From Bright Journey,” while Tonia from Class 1-4 talked about “My Progress in Bright Journey.” Each student shared a different part of their journey: the progress they had made, the good habits they were developing, and the goals they wanted to work towards next.
For a Grade 1 child, standing on stage is more than simply giving a speech. They need to look back on their experiences, organize their thoughts, and find the courage to share them with others. Their words may still be simple, and their voices may still sound young. But when children begin to ask themselves, “What has changed for me this month?”, their growth starts to take shape. And as one child shares on stage, others listen. Through these different stories, the children discover that everyone has made progress in their own way, and everyone has something they are still working towards.
One Stop Reached, Another Journey Begins
The Bright Journey began on September 1, when the children received their very first “tickets.” After more than a month of school life, they reached their first stop — Bright Start Stop.
During the arrival ceremony, student representatives from each class brought their Bright Journey booklets onto the stage. Together, they marked the occasion with a group photo at their first stop.
Reaching a stop does not mean the journey is over. It is a chance to pause, look back, and celebrate how far we have come. The children are now familiar with their classrooms, their school, and their daily routines. They are also beginning to develop learning and life habits of their own. Things that once required reminders from teachers can now be done independently. These changes may seem small, but they are happening every day.
The arrival ceremony at Bright Start Stop may be over, but the Bright Journey continues. There will be new stops, new tasks, and new challenges ahead. May the children carry their curiosity and courage with them as they continue their journey — discovering more about themselves through every attempt, building confidence through every small step, and moving steadily towards their next stop.
