October 20, 2026

The golden breeze brings refreshing coolness, and autumn is at its richest. On the afternoon of October 13, the playground of the Puxi Campus of Shanghai High School International Division was filled with laughter and joy as the autumn sports gala for the fourth and fifth grade sections officially kicked offMs. Zhang Zehong, Secretary General of SHS; Mr. Ma Feng, Vice Principal of SHS and Principal of SHSID High School; Mr. Liu Lian, Principal of SHSID Middle and Primary School; as well as school leaders and heads of various sections at the Puxi Campus, all graced the event with their presence to cheer on the fully prepared young athletes and jointly unveil this vibrant sports celebration.

The students, dressed in neat and uniform sports T-shirts, marched in to the stirring and passionate melody, entering one after another in class formations with light footsteps and spirited demeanor. With concise and crisp movements, they vividly brought the essence of various sports to life: the posture of archery, revealing composure and focus as the bowstring was slightly drawn; the stance of tennis, bursting with agility and decisiveness through swift shifts within a small space; the manner of cycling, chasing speed and freedom as the two wheels spun rapidly; the shadow of badminton, displaying nimbleness and ease as the shuttlecock rose and fell; the charm of football, igniting passion and teamwork as they ran across the green field. Twenty classes took the stage in turn, each showcasing its own brilliance; ten representative sports made their appearances one after another, each with its own distinctive flair. Overflowing with vitality and boundless creativity, they allowed diverse sports cultures to complement and shine vividly on this athletic field.

As the entrance ceremony slowly drew to a close, Ms. Lu Luting, Director of the Fourth and Fifth Grade Sections, took the stage to deliver a speech. She presented a short film titled "Sports Little Stars," turning the camera on those familiar faces around the students. In the video, young gymnasts stretched their bodies, displaying flexibility and strength; young kendo practitioners stood with swords in hand, revealing focus and decisiveness in advancing, retreating, attacking, and defending; young sailors rode the wind and waves, chasing freedom and courage between the blue sea and sky; young basketball players dribbled and dashed across the court, demonstrating hard work and teamwork in the transitions between offense and defense; young swimmers cleaved through the waves, pursuing speed and perseverance amid the shimmering waters. Whether it was the focused demeanor of their daily earnest training or the brilliant moments of their strenuous efforts on the field, all captured the students' most sincere love for sports and showcased the young athletes' unyielding and never-give-up spirit.

Then, all eyes in the venue converged on the center of the field, where all the fourth and fifth grade students delivered an energetic nunchaku performance. Accompanied by dynamic music, the students held nunchaku in their hands, and as the rhythm struck up, the sticks whirled and flew, crossing left and right and spinning up and down, with movements crisp, clean, and powerfully vigorous. The students' chants rang out loud and clear, and every stance and every move fully displayed the youthful spirit of the young generation, perfectly blending strength and beauty, becoming a striking sight on the athletic field.

Immediately afterward, the Chinese and international teachers of the fourth and fifth grades took the stage together, and a "Red Umbrella Dance" instantly ignited the enthusiasm of the entire venue. One red paper umbrella after another opened and closed gracefully to the music, interweaving and transforming into various patterns. The performance embodied a rich sense of Eastern aesthetics and also vividly interpreted the sports team spirit of working together in unison. The students were delightfully surprised and cheered for their teachers one after another, pushing the atmosphere to a new climax.

Mr. Liu Lian, Principal of SHSID Middle and Primary School, took the stage and announced: this year's sports meet was officially beginning. No sooner had the words left her mouth than the first event, the "hula hoop crawl-through" teachers-versus-students match, kicked off in full swing. On the field, the students bent low and ducked their heads, weaving through with nimble agility; the teachers were equally unwilling to be outdone, giving it their all. Laughter and cheers rose and fell in waves, blending into one.

Immediately afterward, a series of team events testing rapport and coordination took the stage one after another. In the "obstacle relay," students had to clear a series of carefully arranged hurdles and sprint with all their might; the "rolling ball relay" was equally ingenious, requiring both lightning-fast footwork to seize speed and a tacit understanding with one's partner to secure victory through steadiness; when the "racing caterpillar" set off, everyone charged forward in unison, while cheers from the sidelines surged wave after wave; the "cornhole toss" was a contest of eyesight and composure, as students took aim and tossed gently, and the small balls dropped into the holes on cue. These events, both tense and thrilling yet full of fun, fully aroused everyone's passion for sports.

The finale, the "8×50M" relay race, pushed the atmosphere of the entire venue to its peak. Runners from each class took their places on the track early, poised and ready to go. Every team member accelerated with all their might and chased relentlessly. What was even more exciting was that the teachers also formed teams to compete alongside the students, and the tense yet joyful atmosphere infected everyone present.

On the field, the young athletes experienced both the tension of competition and the warm power conveyed through cooperation. Every figure running with all their might and every heartfelt cheer were writing a shining chapter belonging to the youth. Though the events have drawn to a close, the spectacular Sports Week continues. May the students keep discovering joy in sports and grow steadily through challenges.
