Puxi Campus G7: Reimagining Classics with Creativity, Telling Stories with Brilliance— English Storytelling Competition

November 2, 2026

On October 29, the sixth and seventh graders of the Middle School Section gathered in the Hsi Building Auditorium for the English Storytelling Competition. After two rounds of selection at the class and grade levels, six students from each grade stood out from the rest and stepped onto the final stage. With rich imagination, fluent English, and captivating stage presence, the six, Grade 7 contestants delivered a splendid feast of English stories for the teachers and students present.

Coco Cen 7(7) told a modern story about Medusa, a poor creature cursed by Poseidon, who seeks revenge. However, in the process, Medusa incidentally harms innocent bystanders, turning them into stone. After feeling regret and remorse, Medusa's tears miraculously melt the stone, allowing the bystanders to return to a normal life. After the ordeal, Medusa learns a valuable lesson and realizes that seeking revenge is never the right path to take.

Aaron 7(6) brought us a fantasy about a hero who discovers a dying village shrouded in darkness. Chosen by a magical star-moth, he embarks on a quest to recover the Sun Crystal and restore light to the village. He encounters a fearsome Shadow Beast guarding the crystal. Instead of defeating it with his sword, he harnesses the star-moth's light to overcome the creature. He returns the crystal to the village, restoring its light and earning the title of "Lightbringer."

Charlotte 7(11) told the story of Astra, who runs away and learns magic. She defeats the wizard who was jealous of her powers. On the way, she meets Luna and Pip, two new friends who aid her on her journey!

Jingya 7(11) offered a modern adaptation of the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. Set in Oregon, this modern-day retelling tells the story of a protective father and an independent daughter, which teaches us the fragility of trust.

Gabrielle 7(8), based on the myth of Medusa and inspired by the French Revolution, told of an arrogant queen who is deposed and executed by her subjects, but rises as a ghost, cursed to wander the earth forever.

Elena 7(4) re-imagined the myth of Pandora. Pandora naively opens the box thinking that it will benefit her in some way. She's ignorant of the chaos that gets released and doesn't realize her mistake until a student of Athena, Pholthea, shows her. Upset with what's happening, Pandora and Pholthea head out into the city to try to spread the hope that has remained in the box. They come across a man called Marcus who epitomizes hope, spending his days and nights healing patients affected by the chaos. At the sight of Marcus' actions, a burst of light appears out of the box and the city is saved.

Our students gave full play to their imagination, weaving together their own thoughts and experiences with the writing techniques they have learned in English class to create these compelling stories. With vivid language, rich expression, well-timed gestures, and perfectly modulated tones, they brought each tale to life, holding the audience spellbound. The warm applause that filled the auditorium was the finest recognition and reward for their efforts.

After the competition, Mr. announced the results:

S/S+ Category Winners: 7(11) Charlotte, 7(6) Aaron , 7(7) Coco Cen

H/H+ Category Winners: 7(4) Elena, 7(11) Jingya,7(8) Gabrielle

And so, this year's English Storytelling Competition came to a successful close. Let us meet again next year for this wonderful feast of stories!
