2023 Bit Day: Exploring the Wonders of AI
The 2023 Bit Day, one of the foremost computer science events at SHSID, was successfully held as planned. With the rise of sophisticated language models such as ChatGPT, "Artificial Intelligence (AI)" has once again taken the spotlight in the field of computer science. Themed around "AI", the 2023 Bit Day presented a variety of activities that provided students with personal opportunities to marvel at the wonders of "AI" and computer science. The aim was to spark their interest in computer science, prompting them to reflect on the profound impact of technological development on human society.
The 2023 Bit Day event series officially kicked off on October 16. Here's a recap of all the activities:
(1) AI Spy: Who Is the Human?
During the lunch break of Wednesday, October 18th, the AI Spy game "Who Is the Human?" took place in the first-floor lobby of the Zhentao Building. As artificial intelligence continues to advance, distinguishing between AI-generated and human-crafted responses has become increasingly difficult. During the "AI Spy" game, students noted that differences in tone or content sometimes give away whether the response was generated by an AI or a human. Nonetheless, in other instances, it remains challenging to tell whether humans or AI created the responses. Students enthusiastically participated in the game, reacting with excitement or disbelief each time the truth was revealed. Due to the overwhelming response, STEMDoge will host the same event again in two weeks, inviting everyone to personally experience the wonders of AI!
(2) Mini-Program Quiz Bowl
Beginning on October 18th, eight computer science-related questions were released daily on the student-developed mini-program "Daily Life of the Tech Dog." These questions covered a wide range of topics, spanning from technical aspects of computer architecture to interesting anecdotes in the field of information technology. Participants were awarded "Bytes" based on their accurate responses. Students actively engaged, striving for high ranks on the leaderboard. Now, as the final days of the "Quiz Bowl" approach, make sure to seize the opportunity to participate, answer questions correctly to earn "Bytes", and redeem them for various exciting prizes!
(3) Programming Competition
On October 22nd, a programming competition jointly organized by the STEMDoge Club and OI Club attracted numerous coding experts in our school. The competition comprised of six challenging questions designed to challenge participants with varying coding experience, encouraging them to engage in critical and computational thinking. After three intense hours of wrestling with the problems, "爱编程的小张" emerged as the first-place winner, with "Abyss_Seeker" and "Bulaisien" coming in second and third place, respectively. Congratulations to all of them!
In two weeks, the Computer Science Department and the STEMDoge Club will join forces once again to host the second round of Bit Day events! What kind of impact has artificial intelligence truly had on our academic and personal lives? An exceptionally compelling debate on artificial intelligence, organized by the SHSID Debate Club, will be held over this topic. Moreover, an online "Scavenger Hunt" will take place, and the much-loved AI Spy game will make its return in this event. Stay tuned for more exciting updates!
