AP & IBDP Results Released
Recently, the exam results for the AP and IB courses were released, and the students from SHSID have once again achieved impressive results.
In 2023, SHSID experienced extraordinary participation in the AP exams, with over 1,300 exams taken by students from grades 10 to 12. The AP courses encompassed all subject groups, resulting in a record-breaking number of exam takers. The overall average score of all AP courses offered on campus reached 4.7 out of 5, showing commendable performance. Notably, the AP English courses (both Language and Composition and Literature and Composition) achieved an impressive average score of 4.5 out of 5 (compared to the global average about 3 out of 5), reaching a five-year high.
Over the past five years, the school's IBDP (International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme) has seen a significant surge in popularity among students. Despite the program's doubled size, academic performance remains exceptional. In this year's May IB exams, all of our IBDP students achieved a 100% pass rate and earned the International Baccalaureate Diploma. Notably, more than 80% of them received bilingual diplomas, with over 50% of candidates choosing a combination of English A and Chinese A as their bilingual course group. Additionally, all students successfully completed the Theory of Knowledge (TOK) course in English.
Across the entire school, the DP course subjects achieved an impressive average score of 6.5 out of 7 (full score), with the highest individual result also being a perfect 45 out of 45. Moreover, over 90% of students obtained outstanding results, scoring 2 points or above (out of 3) in the IB core courses, Theory of Knowledge (TOK), and Extended Essay (EE). All students who received university admissions based on their predicted IB scores, including the 13 students who were pre-admitted to Oxbridge this year, have achieved scores that meet or exceed the required cutoff. As a result, they are on track to enroll seamlessly in various prestigious universities.
The outstanding academic achievements of SHSID can be attributed to its consistent "cultivating individual talents" educational philosophy, which emphasizes a multi-disciplinary approach and comprehensive cultivation of students' overall abilities. Taking the English curriculum as an example, in the English literature courses, students extensively study a wide range of texts from different genres and periods, with a focus on in-depth exploration through reading, comparison, and analysis. On the other hand, English language courses emphasize non-literary works, with a concentration on rhetorical analysis to enhance students' humanistic and historical literacy as well as logical analytical skills.
English teachers actively participate in various school-based programs such as PG courses, the House Program, and R-TEW, collaborating with students to explore different topics in their growth journey. Additionally, a wide range of extracurricular activities serve as important platforms for supporting students' learning within the English department. These activities include speech and debate, humanities reading groups, creative writing clubs, etc.
