Grades 11-12:2023 Talent Show

April 28, 2023

Every year, the SHSID Talent Show for Grades 11-12 is a grand event that attracts many students and teachers to participate in. The 2023 Talent Show kicked off on the afternoon of April 27 in the grand auditorium, showcasing the diverse talents of students. This talent show included multiple categories, including song performances, dance performances, and instrumental performances. Two students from Grade 11 and six from Grade 12 participated in hosting the talent show. With their eloquent speaking skills and strong sense of humor, they helped transition between each of the performances.

In this year's talent show, we started with a band performance. Winola from Class 11(3) brought her band to the show with a Japanese song called "Parade of Petals". She brought a soft and sun-shiny song with her beautiful voice. The band used music and stage effects to create a specific atmosphere, immersing the audience in it to experience the comfortable and joyful emotions conveyed by the music.

12(1)’s Max Liu used his excellent guitar skills and brought a jazz-metal guitar solo. He stood on the stage, passionately playing his favorite music. The song ignited the audience's love of rock music and paved the way for his later show. Later on, Max, accompanied by his friends, again took to the stage and performed a great contrast to his previous solo, this time playing a very lively cartoon-like song. The happy music excited the audience and made them sing and dance together with the people on stage.

In the dance performance, 12(9)’s Samana brought a very exotic dance, showcasing the unique culture of her hometown. Beautiful, vibrant, and happy music and dancing movements let the audience immerse themselves in what they were witnessing as if they had gone to the warm climate of Southeast Asia.

There were more types of performances during the talent show, as the Grade 11 individual performances also shone brightly. 11(9)’s Andrew and 11(5)’s Emily brought a tender romantic song called "I Love U 3000". They worked together so well on stage that their voices overlapped, and the audience was lost in their singing. 11(7)’s Jason also brought a song called "Waiting for You after Class", which told the story of high school life, a warm and simple youth. It let the students pull from the memories they had collectively had but also allowed the audience to participate by pulling out of the mobile phones, turning on their flashlights, and fully being immersed at the moment.

In the latter half of the talent show, apart from individual performances, each Grade-12 class also put on a wonderful group performance at the end of the talent show to celebrate and commemorate the end of their high school career. The song “Hype Boy” played as Class 12(4) danced on the stage with full energy. 12(9) brought "Memory" to revel in nostalgia and look back on all the good memories students had. At the end of the finale, 12(7)’s Catie sang about her perspective on high school life. Telling the story of everyday life, the beautiful song also made people feel her reluctance to say farewell to high school life and friends. During this somber moment, Grade 12 students embraced each other and cherished a moment during which they’d all be together before each heading off to bigger and brighter things.

Overall, the 2023 SHSID Talent Show provided a great platform for 11th- and 12th-grade students to showcase their abilities and express their passion for school life. We wish all 12th-grade students a smooth end to their high school life and that they feel prepared for the upcoming new journey they are about to set sail on.
