Middle and Primary School Math Department: G6 Project “Optical Illusions”

May 16, 2022

During the month of online learning, Grade 6 Math Group organized a distinctive activity in which students experienced an immersion in the topic of “optical illusion.” Optical illusion consists of geometrical elements and visual patterns, referring to students’ recent learning of geometry. The project was divided into two main themes—exploring the four common types of optical illusion and creating an illusionary artwork. Teachers guided students into further exploration, interpreting the idea of an illusion, as well as providing students with video resources to savor the theories of illusion. Through conscientious participation, students are able to use the knowledge from class to appreciate famous aesthetics and apply it to the reality around them.

Eccentric artworks of world renown are creational inspirations to students. They exerted their huge imaginations and established unique drawings. With comprehensive experience, the optical illusion activity inspired students’ multi-aspect cogitation and learning, fostered their ability to analyze math concepts and express themselves through visual arts, and promoted everyone to probe into the vast world of mathematics!
