Grade9:Sharing on China Thinks Big Competition
In the 17th week of this semester, Amanda from class 9(7) shared herChina Thinks Big (CTB)experience with everyone:
Since October of 2019, team members have been trying to achieve better results regarding their chosen topic. This was not only due to the awards of the competition, but also due to the desire to solve or improve a societal issue.
The topic was chosen with care, for a good topic is crucial to better results. As the team leader, it was very hard forAmandato decide among the many proposals that her teammates had thought of because factors such as creativity and achievability needed to be considered. It was finally decided that the topic would deal with the problem of plastic trash produced with takeout. This is a topic closer to the lives of students as well as people from other stages in life, therefore it would be much easier to gather information. Following the instructions and guides provided on the official website of CTB,Amandaled the team in making specific plans to help improve the topic at hand. They decided to use award systems as well as WeChat articles to spread awareness as the most basic plans. They hope to award those at school who order takeout without plastic cutlery in order to encourage more people to do so. The WeChat articles were meant to be used to spread awareness about the effects of plastic trash on the environment. However, before most of their plans could be fully carried out, the corona virus pandemic disrupted them. Then they made the decision to adjust their plans to an online status. They drew comic strips and made videos to spread awareness about the problems with plastic trash. The comic strips were mainly done byAmanda, while the video was done by several team members together. The member hope to use these more colorful and lively methods to achieve better results.
Although the final results of the competition were not satisfactory enough, all of the members were able to experience the process of compiling a full set of research, plans, and results. This experience could be really useful in later projects both in and outside of school. As the leader,Amandalearnt the hard way about how to coordinate team activities, tasks and members, and how very important it is to plan and prepare for the worst-case scenario.
