Grade 8: Field Trip to Shanghai Ocean Aquarium
Grade 8: Field Trip to Shanghai Ocean Aquarium
On the afternoon of October 18th, the 8th graders of SHSID set off on a field trip to the Shanghai Ocean Aquarium. After each class took a picture at the aquarium entrance, the students proceeded inside.
Walking in, they were greeted with fish, fish, and more fish. Some on the fish at the aquarium are gold and round, like those in everyday fish tanks; some are black and flat, and some monochrome. Each biome has its own collection of fish in their own uniquely designed habitat. For example, the tropical fish swim comfortably in little small tanks filled with coral and tropical plants; while the Arctic habitat houses adorable penguins who play and swimming around in the icy water. There are also coral habitats with blue tang fish (to which everyone yelled “Dory!”), and a deep ocean section, which had jellyfish that were semi-transparent and seemed to change colour under the light.
After that, the students entered a round, glass-walled tunnel and were carried along on a conveyor belt. Lots of fish from multiple different layers of the ocean swam all around us. Turtles, sharks, tropical fish, you name it! Finally, the students reluctantly entered the bus, and returned to the school campus. This field trip really showed the students how diverse and interesting ocean life can be. Students learned a lot from this experience and look forward to the next field trips of immense educational value.
