Bilingual Debate Training Session

On the afternoon of October 15th, Mr. Cale Halley, the academic director of NSDA China, conducted a great training session for the SHSID Bilingual Debate Competition. Focusing on persuasiveness and the art of speaking, Mr. Halley taught the students a variety of debate techniques. He covered emphasis, tone, speaking rate, filler words, non-verbal communication… You name it! These details tend to matter a lot in speech and debate. This simple but useful preparation and exercise inspired the debaters and students to speak up! Through interactions such as the tongue twister exercise, tone and emphasis training, and the filler words challenge, students were shown that becoming an excellent debater requires continuous practice. Mr. Halley also shared his experience in NSDA and talked about some of his good and bad experiences. At the end of the session, students talked to Mr. Halley face to face and spoke about debate passionately. Hopefully the debaters benefited a lot from this training and will bring about some splendid debates.
