Puxi Grade 4: STEM Education
Puxi Grade 4: STEM Education
During P&B class on May 22nd, the fourth grade teachers guided their students in experiencing STEM, which is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. STEM focuses on these four subjects to help youth gain the skills required to succeed in today's challenging world. This includes the ability to think critically, solve complex problems, and drive advancements in science and technology.During the class, students were required to work as groups to build a stable structure using spaghetti and clay. After some heated discussion, the students started to build their structures. Each structure was loaded with one book to test its stability. Some groups were very confident about their structures. However, they topped down very soon when loaded with one thin book. This phenomenon aroused the students' curiosity. Afterwards, the teachers showed their students some stable structures from our daily lives and famous architecture from around the world. Students came to realize that triangular structures are the most stable.
In this STEM class, the students not only explored something related to real life and learned useful knowledge, but also enhanced their collaboration ability and the ability to solve the problems, as well as making full use of their creativity and having a lot of fun.(Written by Wang Tingqi Pictures by Wang Tingqi)
