Pudong Grade 1: World Citizenship

In Grade 1 Social Studies class, the students learned how different cultures define the word ‘citizenship’ for them. As being one of the members in this global world village, our students constantly confront different cultures in their lives. This is an especially important aspect in the lives of kids who study in international schools like SHSID.

In order to broaden our students’ horizon as well as to raise their cultural awareness, three of the parents from Grade 1 were invited to introduce their culture. We saw one from the United States, one from the United Kingdom, and the other one from Malaysia. The parents prepared carefully before the lecture with national flags and little stickers, and our students loved it! They listened carefully to learn about countries and cultures both familiar and strange.

The parents were also amazed at how much our students knew already about different cultures around the world. We hope that this opportunity brings more diversity into our school, and helps students to be a better global citizens.
