College Info Session (V) - Carnegie Mellon University
College Info Session (V) - Carnegie Mellon University
On the evening of October 9, Mr. Mike Steidel and Mr. Greg Edleman from Carnegie Mellon University, hosted a public information session in SHSID XM Auditorium. Over 400 students and parents signed up for this event.
They started with an introduction of academic experience, philosophy of education, college system, and other general background information about the university. Mr. Edleman particularly stressed the importance of picking the right college when applying for CMU because it is hard to transfer between colleges later.
Moving on, he presented to us the eight colleges of the university, focusing on each of their specialties and what kind of academic life students will experience in the colleges. Then a video centred around the motto "today we work" was played.
Mr. Steidel then explained to the audience about how research would be an important part in students' studies, and the faculties were "a practicing community of professionals". Then he presented the city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to us.
Towards the end he talked about the admission process, which will be a holistic evaluation of every applicants. He wrapped it up with a video on alumni achievement and a Q&A session.
With this comprehensive introduction, high schoolers in China truly learn more about CMU.
