Grade 6: English PBA Fair
Grade 6: English PBA Fair
For our second monthly PBA (performance based assessment) project, 6th graders at SHSID focused on proposing solutions for some of the issues that Shanghai faces. While there are numerous reasons we love this city, we know that constant evaluation and improvement are key to keeping Shanghai a place that everyone loves. Our 6th graders did intensive research on the problems plaguing Shanghai, how these issues may be global issues, and what solutions we can propose to fix them.
The projects started with students photographing examples of things they love, along with things they would change in Shanghai. Students then focused their topics, forming groups with students who decided to focus on similar issues. They created posters and brochures to inform others of the issues and their proposed solutions. Topics included things such as air pollution, water pollution, education, littering, traffic, gentrification, and much more. It was wonderful to see the students working in groups, out in their community getting involved and making improvements.
The last step was for the students to present all of the information they found at the 6th grade PBA Fair. They went around and asked questions to their peers, learning about a wide range of topics and how we can work together to make improvements in Shanghai. Projects were both creative and informative. The presentations were also enjoyed by teachers and administrators. We’re all so proud of the 6th graders and all of their hard work!
