Grade 11: Company Visit - Hotel Management
Grade 11: Company Visit - Hotel Management
Career Day at SHSID strives to give students plentiful opportunities to experience different careers. On May 24th, a group of eleventh-grade students went to Sofitel Shanghai Hyland Hotelto learn about hotel management and the history of Sofitel. When the students arrived at Sofitel on East Nanjing Road they were separated into two groups and both groups got to experience two departments of Sofitel— the concierge and housekeeping departments. A service associate at the front desk introduced to the students the system ‘OPERA’, a system used by many hotels to store information about guests and to arrange rooms. The service associate told the students how to help guests check in and check out. She also talked about the arrangement of rooms and room service. Then, students went to a hotel room in Sofitel. A room attendant taught the students how to make the beds. Afterwards, a student volunteered to make a bed based on what he had learned. This must have been an unforgettable experience for him.
At the end, students gathered together in a conference room in Sofitel on the fifth floor, where they enjoyed snacks prepared by the staffs and listened to a lecture talking about Accor, Sofitel’s parent company. The lecture was very inspiring and beneficial, especially for students who would consider choosing hotel management as their major in college. After all, the trip to Sofitel was a valuable experience for students to experience different workplaces in a hotel. It might also help students to choose their future career paths.
