Grade 8: Physics Jeopardy

On the first day of November, Grade 8 students came to classroom 413 for the weekly study room activity. This time the activity was Physics jeopardy.

Before the competition, Ms. Shen, the 8th Grade H level Physics teacher informed the students that the purpose of this activity was to realize that Physics is fun and interesting, and it solves many questions about how the world works. Next, she explained the rules. Upon hearing the question, students could hit their desk to signal the teacher that he or she knew the answer. There was one point for each right answer, but also minus one point for each wrong answer. The rule requires the competitors to be both brave and tactical, since they have to be fast and right at the same time.

At 12:30, the competition started. The Powerpoint showed the first question, and one student answered it right quickly, and won the first point. Others also scored points too in the following questions. Some students won a few points, but then lost them all, so they had to start over again. The completion became heated, and there were more and more questions. “Who would have become a musician if he hadn’t been a scientist?” Toby from 8(9) slammed the desk, and answered correctly: “Einstein”, and received a valuable point. At the end of the twenty-minute competition, Toby became the final champion.

Finally, the competition ended. It was more than a game. It was full of interesting Physics facts and knowledge, which sparked our curiosity to further explore the world of physical science.
