High School Chinese Department: Introducing the 24 Solar Terms
On April 3, Ms. Lin Wei organized a traditional handicraft activity themed around the twenty-four solar terms. Ms. Lin first introduced the ancient Chinese solar term culture to the students, meticulously describing the unique characteristics of each solar term and the activities traditionally carried out during that time.
Following that, Ms. Lin encouraged the students to choose their favorite solar terms and create related hanging decorations using the materials at hand. Some students chose the Qingming solar term, decorating their plaques with sparse willow branches and enticing Qingtuan (a type of green rice ball); others selected the Chushu solar term, with their decorations depicting blooming sunflowers and summer-themed poems. After the activity concluded, the students expressed that the twenty-four solar terms contain unique beauty and charm that deeply captivated them.
This activity provided the students with a deeper understanding and appreciation of Chinese traditional culture, igniting their desire to explore more about traditional culture. Ms. Lin hoped that through such activities, more people would come to understand and carry forward the precious aspects of Chinese traditional culture.
