Grade 11 Assembly: Enjoy the Process of Trying
In an engaging morning assembly on February 29, Sophia from class 11(10) took to the podium to share her journey in developing a Student Wellness course and promoted the upcoming Global OXMUN.
Sophia, a passionate advocate for destigmatizing mental health, started her presentation by asking the audience three questions: “What do you like? What are you good at? What does the world need you to be?” She explained that these three questions helped inspire her to create the course and take the leap of faith that is required to teach a class. Next, she showcased some pictures from the course, highlighting activities like making wellness bracelets, circular discussions, and guest lectures. Then she detailed the meticulous process she undertook in forming the curriculum for the course such as utilizing various research platforms and reaching out to field professionals. “The mindset in which you use to approach issues is almost as important as the issue itself,” Sophia shared. “I encourage all of you to try and create something you are passionate about; even if it fails, the process itself is a reward.”
Following the discussion on the wellness course, Sophia invited her co-vice president of the school’s high school MUN club, Geoffrey Ku, onto the stage to share some information about the upcoming MUN competition jointly hosted by Oxford University and SHSID. With contagious enthusiasm, Sophia encouraged all students to participate or volunteer in the conference, emphasizing the invaluable skills that one can gain from the experience—critical thinking, public speaking, and diplomacy.
