Grade 10: Sophomore Project Showcase
On January 3, as a new year arrived with a semester about to end, the teachers and students of tenth grade gathered at each of their homerooms to prepare for the presentation of the “Sophomore Project” they had worked on for the past semester. Standing at the second-year of high-school, every student has used their time to diligently search for the answer of the question "Who am I?"
During the presentation, the presenters first introduced the three-year plans they had for high-school. In addition to the regular preparations for academic performance, students also vigorously displayed their extracurricular activities, including hobbies such as art, photography, and literature, or varsity sports like swimming and soccer. Those who came up to present talked of them as parts of their identities, and proudly included them in their future plans.
Next, students presented their chosen artifacts about their development. As another window for the display of oneself, students put up all sorts of items such as homework that one had put effort in, awards that one got throughout his or her course of development, and even a chemical experiment that inspired one’s interest. Through this opportunity, students were able to visualize their pasts in a new and third-person perspective, realizing the experiences they have gone through, and better recognizing one’s past while shaping the answer for “Who am I.”
To end, two essays each student wrote about “Who am I?” were presented. Due to being a multi-prompt essay, each student naturally chose different prompts of their liking, and thus each student took various methods of presenting their essays to elucidate their gains. Some students, through answering a question like “Which historical event you would most like to witness?”, explained why they chose this question and explained the significance of their answers. Some, choosing “When have you doubted something you believed to be correct?”, read an excerpt from their essays and explained the teachings this experience had brought them. No matter how, each student’s presentation left a memorable experience to all the audience and further consolidated students’ answer for the question of “Who am I?”
At last, each class voted out its best presenter in Sophomore Project to attend the grade presentation that is to be held next semester. It is certain that after this semester-long project, every tenth-grader is able to review oneself through a new perspective and form a solid framework for his or her high school life.
