December 27, 2023

With the New Year approaching and a strong festive atmosphere in the air, Grades 4 and 5 of SHSID Puxi Campus held an art festival on the morning of December 19th. With the theme of "Integration and Art," this festival covered an array of rich and novel performance content. Not only was this possible due to cooperation between teachers and students, but also because of a variety of artistic forms of creative programs, showing the outstanding artistic talent of both teachers and students alike. The festival was also streamed online via online simulcast, so that parents who did not attend the scene could also have a glimpse at the impressive artistry.

The art festival started with the band performance of five boys in Grade Four and the melodious singing of the choir. In the first chapter, " The Acceptance of Local and International Art," the students displayed artistic performances from different countries that were full of cultural characteristics. This section of the performance was a kaleidoscope of genre and style: from the Chinese farewell song to the magical and mysterious song "Hedwig's Theme," to the energetic class dance "Cowboy" and "The Best Stage," to the individual hip hop dance and the traditional Yi dance "Zi Mo Ge Ni." From the Cantonese song "My Pride" to the duet of the Disney film soundtrack "I See the Light." The ardent collaboration between teachers and students shone whilst singing "You Raise Me Up," to which the audience applauded emphatically! Then, the traditional folk song "Thunder in the Dry Sky" was performed by piano, and the melodious sound of the flute was accompanied by the reciting of an ancient Chinese poem. This festival also included a creative performance: "Xinjiang Spring" which integrated ballet, piano and violin, and included a cross-grade cello and piano performance of "Pirates of the Caribbean." All the perfomance showed the students' excellent innovative thinking and cooperative spirit.

During the break of the program, Mr. Liu Lian, Principal of SHSID Middle and Primary School made a surprise appearance with "Santa Claus", bringing lucky draw and good New Year wishes to the students!

The wind orchestra played the second chapter, "Renaissance of Ancient and Modern," with "Sakura," a mix of modern rock and traditional wind. In this chapter, the audience not only enjoyed Chinese folk dance, but also watched the ancient Greek silent opera performance on the stage of the festival for the first time. The performances of each class opened our eyes. "A Little Scribble Spot," "Compendium of Materia Medica," "Qilin" and the Qatar World Cup theme song "Tukoh Taka" not only brought the beauty of the integration of music and culture, but also passed on the joy and power brought by art.

The third chapter was titled "Teaming Integration and Harmony," and pushed the atmosphere of the festival to the climax. The string orchestra, the hiphop dance club and the classical dance club brought us a high standard of artistic performances that amazed everyone. Finally, came the much-anticipated performance by parents and teachers! The parents' beautiful song "Hello Tomorrow" was full of good wishes and hopes for the children, and the teachers' singing and dancing showed their different style outside the classroom, setting off bursts of cheers. Finally, in conclusion to the energetic singing, all of the Chinese and foreign teachers and music teachers took to the stage to send good New Year wishes to the students and parents.

We use art to integrate China and the world, and to reflect upon the ancient and the modern. We use art to cross the boundary of culture and expand the vision of globalization. This audio-visual feast makes us more ready to go. We hope that everyone welcomes the journey of the New Year with enthusiasm and positivity!
