G3 | Puxi Campus: An Amazing Encounter Between Students and Artificial Intelligence

December 20, 2023

On December 13th, the Puxi Campus third-grade students of the International Department experienced a unique and special Artificial Intelligence (AI) innovation class taught by a guest teacher named Ji Li Bi Jie.

During the class, the teacher first introduced the meaning and functions of AI to the students in detail. The students learned that AI is a technology that simulates human intelligence, capable of performing various tasks through learning and adaptation, including image recognition, speech processing, and automated decision-making. As AI technology continues to advance, it plays an increasingly important role in various fields.

While introducing the concept of AI to the students, the teacher also emphasized its pros and cons. They pointed out that despite the significant progress AI has made in many areas, there are still challenges and factors that need careful consideration. One of these factors is data privacy and security, since AI systems require collecting a large amount of data for learning and decision-making. The teacher encouraged the students to protect their personal privacy when using AI technology and handle and share personal data with caution.

Next, the teacher engaged the students in a fun activity to experience the wonders of AI firsthand. The children described a specific scene or object using words, and the AI system generated corresponding images based on their descriptions. Under the guidance of the teacher, the students further challenged the creativity of AI. They made requests to the AI using keywords, hoping that it would create a poem related to the provided theme. These activities fully stimulated the students' creativity and imagination. They were amazed by the capabilities of AI while also becoming aware of its limitations in the creative process.

Through this AI innovation class, the students not only gained an understanding of the basic concepts and applications of AI, but also personally experienced its vast potential and limitations. Such a course not only nurtured their critical thinking skills but also planted seeds of anticipation for the future development of AI and relevant technology.
