Science and Innovation Lecture - Project Transformation from the Perspective of Youth Scientific Research
On December 13, SHSID High School invited Youth Innovation Advisor Mr. Gu to give a lecture on scientific research guidance in the afternoon at the XMT Auditorium, selecting some award-winning cases such as the S.-T. Yau Science Award, ISEF Award, etc. The lecture explained the core elements of research project proposal, skills, evaluation, and many other aspects, providing valuable suggestions and ideas for students on how to carry out scientific research.
Mr. Gu first gave an example of a Korean mathematician who won the Fields Medal last year. He talked about a story of how he experienced setbacks but gradually grew into a mathematician as a poet. The inspiration he brought to everyone was how to cultivate their own innovation ability. It is important to think deeply and intensively for a long time, and to see what others cannot see through shallow and fast thinking. Scientific research requires a spirit of in-depth exploration of scientific knowledge and the continuous broadening of the depth and breadth of knowledge.
Then, he started from several mainstream scientific research evaluation criteria, allowing everyone to understand the different approaches applied in the mainstream scientific research competitions. In addition, he elaborated several award-winning cases in different subject areas and gave a detailed analysis of the effectiveness, feasibility, and applicability of research methods, as well as the evaluation differences. After the lecture, several students raised their questions about research topics, research methods, etc. Mr. Gu replied to them, respectively, and encouraged them to learn and think more.
The science and innovation lectures are one of the numerous platforms set up by SHSID, focusing on the personal and lifelong development of every student. The fruitful achievements in recent years cannot be separated from the multi-faceted science and innovation education as well as the talent-training strategies provided by SHSID. We hope this lecture can help students choose projects that cater to the real interest direction of theirs and ultimately realize their dreams in the future.
